Carthage man sentenced to ten years for wife's murder

A man from Carthage, Missouri, has been sentenced to ten years and three months in prison for murdering his wife in 2024.

In February, 24-year-old Gavino McJunkins-Macias pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 24-year-old Kenia Lopez.

Investigators say McJunkins-Macias killed Lopez in Louisburg, Kansas, then drove her body in a camper down to Carthage.

Police say he left her body in the camper for more than three hours while he met with his family and "handled other business without first notifying the proper authorities."

McJunkins-Macias was sentenced in Kansas and he still faces an abandonment of a corpse charge in Missouri.
