Missouri Attorney General investigating large data breach

Attorney General Andrew Bailey has launched an investigation into reports of stolen social security numbers.

The Missouri Attorney General’s office is investigating a company that specializes in employee background checks after it suffered a large data breach.

Hackers stole sensitive private information held by National Public Data, including billions of records containing names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and phone numbers.

The cybercriminal group, USDoD, allegedly put the database up for sale after gaining access to the unencrypted data of two-point-nine-billion-people.

If you believe that you have been affected by the breach, submit a complaint through the attorney general’s website.
