JOPLIN, Mo. – Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) will celebrate and honor veterans throughout Veterans Day week. The university will host a special luncheon at noon Nov. 11 in the Joplin and Jasper community rooms at the Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center.

This year's luncheon will feature guest speaker Lt. Col. Gerald Curtis Gober ('06), a Missouri Army National Guard officer and MSSU alumnus.

A 2006 MSSU graduate with a degree in accounting, Gober commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 2010 and has since served in a variety of military leadership roles.

His deployments include Afghanistan in 2011 and Kuwait in 2022, where he led a team of 100 soldiers responsible for communications support for nine brigades across four countries. He currently serves as the G6 officer-in-charge for the 35th Infantry Division.

In addition to his military service, Gober is the director of finance and accounting for Prosys Fill LLC. He holds an MBA from Webster University and a Master of Operational Studies from the Command and General Staff College.

Throughout the week, MSSU will recognize the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces, providing opportunities for the university community to express its gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

The luncheon is open to the public, and all veterans are invited to attend.
