BAXTER SPRINGS, KS.- A 59-year-old postal worker from Baxter Springs, Kansas, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on allegations she stole thousands of pieces of mail, including hundreds of political mailers connected exclusively to Republican candidates.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Kansas, Kelly R. Cram was indicted Tuesday in Wichita on one count of unlawful secretion, destruction and delay of mail.

Prosecutors allege Cram stole 4,404 pieces of mail beginning in October. Nearly 400 of those items were political mailers related to Republican candidates or political action committees affiliated with the Republican Party.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said investigators found no political mailers associated with candidates from any other political party at Cram's residence. The allegedly stolen mail was found in her garage.

The indictment states Cram worked as a rural route carrier at the Pittsburg Post Office and had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service since May 23, 2009. She was placed on administrative leave Oct. 7, 2026, the same day investigators visited her residence and discovered the mail.

The case is being investigated by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General.

The indictment was returned on Election Day, Nov. 3, as Kansas voters headed to the polls to decide several statewide and federal races. However, the court filing does not identify the specific candidates connected to the recovered mailers or establish whether the alleged theft affected any election results.

If convicted, Cram could face up to five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

An indictment is a formal accusation, and Cram is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
