A 19-year-old Riverton man is now facing a first-degree murder charge following a fatal shooting in rural Cherokee County last week.
Joshua Wilson was arrested in connection with the shooting death of 23-year-old Gannon Reece, also of Riverton, on Friday, October 23.
Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at 4971 SE 67th Street, near Southeast Lostine Road.
When deputies got there they found Reece suffering from gunshot wounds. Cherokee County EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
Wilson was still at the scene and was immediately detained.
He was initially booked into the Cherokee County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
As the investigation continued, authorities upgraded the charge to first-degree murder.
Wilson also faces allegations of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, distribution of marijuana, aggravated child endangerment, felony interference, possession of a firearm while under the influence and minor in possession of alcohol.
Authorities have not released details about what led to the shooting or the relationship between Wilson and Reece.
Wilson was being held without bond at the Cherokee County Jail.
