Joplin Police have identified another suspect in the drug distribution investigation that followed seven suspected overdoses at the Joplin City Jail last week.

47-year-old Kenneth Carter, listed as homeless, allegedly supplied the suspected narcotics that eventually reached multiple inmates, triggering a series of medical emergencies on October 13.

Investigators say Carter provided suspected narcotics to fellow inmate Edward Turner on October 12. Turner then distributed the drugs to other inmates.

Police allege Carter supplied Turner with additional narcotics the following day. Turner passed those drugs to James Johnny, who allegedly distributed them to six other inmates.

Seven inmates, including Johnny, required emergency medical treatment.

Police submitted a charge of delivery of a controlled substance against Carter to the Jasper County Prosecutor's Office.

Carter has since been transferred to the Newton County Jail, where he remains in custody on unrelated charges.

Turner and Johnny have also been implicated in the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
