Duenweg man accused of supplying drugs linked to Joplin jail overdoses

A second suspect has been charged after the suspected fentanyl overdose of seven Joplin City Jail inmates last week.
New court documents reveal how investigators believe drugs were passed between inmates before the October 13 medical incident that forced the jail to be evacuated.
43-year-old Edward Ian Turner is accused of delivering controlled substances inside the jail on October 12 and 13.
Turner admitted to investigators that he got meth from Kenneth Carter before distributing it to fellow inmates Kore Thomason, Daniel Rendon, James Johnny, and a fourth, unidentified inmate.
Investigators say another transaction the following day may have led to the fentanyl overdoses.
Turner told police he received additional substances packaged in baggies on October 13.
He believed the substances were cocaine and gave them to Johnny.
Johnny then allegedly distributed the substances to six inmates: Rendon, Derick Cartwright, Richard Cannon, Loren Checkley, Thomason and Samuel Lane.
Surveillance video showed Johnny displaying a white item in his left hand to another inmate.
Johnny and that inmate then moved to a corner of Dorm A, where several other inmates gathered.
Within 15 minutes, inmates started showing symptoms of an overdose.
They were given Narcan and rushed to a local hospital.
Johnny was arrested on October 15, then later pleaded not guilty.
The investigation remains ongoing.
