A now-former Riverton, Kansas, schoolteacher has been arrested following an investigation into an alleged sexual relationship with a student.

30-year-old Justin W. McKee, of Webb City, was arrested Wednesday.

Cherokee County Sheriff Brian Henderson says the investigation began last week, when Riverton school officials contacted authorities about a possible inappropriate relationship between a staff member and a student.

Investigators submitted charges of unlawful sexual relations with a minor, aggravated intimidation of a victim or witness, and contributing to child misconduct.

A Cherokee County judge signed an arrest warrant Tuesday setting McKee's bond at $15,000.

He was taken into custody Wednesday and was being booked into the Cherokee County Jail.

McKee's arrest comes less than a week after the Riverton Board of Education voted unanimously at its October 8 meeting to terminate his employment, effective immediately.

The following day, Superintendent Kevin Cooper told families the district had fired a high school employee after allegations of inappropriate conduct.
