Air testing finds no public threat as Nevada tire fire continues burning
What do you think?
State environmental officials say smoke from a massive tire fire in Nevada, Missouri, poses no identified threat to the public.
First responders say you could see additional smoke as crews work to extinguish the remaining burning tires.
The blaze broke out Saturday at David's Tire, sending flames through piles of shredded rubber and threatening the business.
Since the initial response, firefighters returned multiple times to battle flare-ups and prevent the flames from spreading to the main building.
On Monday, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Emergency Response team conducted air sampling near the fire and throughout the Nevada area.
Officials reported finding no public health threat from airborne smoke.
DNR also examined surrounding land for potential contaminated runoff but had zero concerns during its assessment.
Authorities are now working with the business owner on a plan to extinguish the remaining fire and safely dispose of the tires.
The cause of the fire has not been announced.
