Man arrested for stabbing in Cherokee County; Victim in critical condition

NewsTalk KZRG received the following news release from the Cherokee County Sheriff's office:
On October 10, 2026, the Cherokee County Emergency Communication Center received a call reporting a stabbing that had occurred in the 300 block of East 11th , in Baxter Springs.
The Baxter Springs Police Department was dispatched to the location. Deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office also responded to assist.
The victim was located and was found to be suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported by Cherokee County EMS to an area hospital where they remain in critical condition.
The suspect had fled prior to the arrival of law enforcement on scene. The suspect was located walking along Hwy 69A north of Baxter Springs and taken into custody.
The suspect has been identified as Tramone Howard-Hill, age 23 of Baxter Springs, who had an outstanding warrant out of Shawnee County KS for Electronic Solicitation of a Child.
He was transported to the Cherokee County Jail and booked for Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and the warrant.
At the request of the Baxter Springs Police Department the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office has taken over this investigation. This was a targeted incident and there is no threat to the public at this time. This investigation is ongoing and formal charges will be submitted to the Cherokee County Attorney's Office.
"We would like to recognize the assistance of the Quapaw Nation Marshal Service, the Galena Police Department, and the Cherokee County Attorney's Office," said Cherokee County Sheriff, Brian Henderson.
