A Baxter Springs, Kansas, man is in custody after authorities say he led officers on two high-speed DUI pursuits Wednesday evening, reaching speeds of 100 mph on a stolen motorcycle.

44-year-old Samuel Reffett was arrested after crashing the motorcycle on the Quapaw Tribal Reservation and attempting to flee on foot.

The incident began around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday when Miami Police stopped Reffett near 20th Avenue NW and F Street NW.

Police say Reffett presented a driver's license belonging to someone else before fleeing on the motorcycle.

Officers chased him through northwest Miami, where he allegedly reached speeds approaching 100 mph while traveling north on Main Street.

With heavy traffic and dangerous speeds creating a public safety risk, a police lieutenant ordered officers to abandon the pursuit.

But the chase wasn't over.

After entering the Quapaw area, Reffett encountered deputy marshals with the Quapaw Nation Marshal Service. Authorities say he refused another traffic stop, leading marshals on a second pursuit.

It all ended when Reffett lost control of the bike and crashed. He tried to escape on foot but was quickly arrested.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office booking record, he faces the following listed charges:

  • Possession of a stolen vehicle

  • Driving with a suspended or revoked license

  • Fleeing and eluding

  • Failure to stop at a stop sign

  • Reckless driving

  • Obstruction

  • False personation

  • Driving under the influence (DUI)
