Escaped Cherokee County inmate back in custody after three-day manhunt

A Baxter Springs man who escaped from custody earlier this week is back behind bars after a multi-day search in Cherokee County, Kansas.
29-year-old Terron Allen, of Baxter Springs, was booked into the jail at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Allen escaped Monday night while a Cherokee County sheriff’s deputy was transporting him back to Kansas from Baldwin County, Alabama.
Authorities said Allen slipped out of his handcuffs, got out of the patrol vehicle near Columbus and ran into a wooded area.
Allen had been arrested on a Cherokee County warrant for aggravated criminal sodomy.
The search focused southeast of Columbus after Allen was reportedly spotted on surveillance cameras in the Quaker area.
Thursday’s booking lists Allen on charges of aggravated escape from custody, aggravated burglary and aggravated criminal sodomy.
Authorities have not yet released details about where Allen was found, or the circumstances surrounding the newly listed aggravated burglary charge.
