President Donald Trump has approved $24.5 million in federal assistance for Missouri communities recovering from two weeks of severe weather in June.

The approval follows a request from Gov. Mike Kehoe for a major disaster declaration covering 34 counties affected by flash flooding, tornadoes and damaging straight-line winds from June 4 through June 18.

While joint assessments by officials identified more than $32.3 million in emergency response costs and damage to public infrastructure, this will help cover a good chunk of that.

This federal funding can reimburse eligible expenses related to emergency response efforts and repairs to damaged roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure.

There are four local counties included: Jasper, Newton, Dade, and Vernon. Most of that damage came the night of Saturday, June 13th.

Plus: Adair, Andrew, Callaway, Camden, Cape Girardeau, Daviess, Gasconade, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Hickory, Holt, Knox, Lewis, Linn, Macon, Marion, Mercer, Miller, Moniteau, Morgan, Nodaway, Osage, Polk, Putnam, Scott, Shelby, Sullivan, Webster and Worth.

Kehoe thanked Trump and Missouri’s congressional delegation for helping secure the federal assistance.
