Got a teen about to take the wheel? To help quell some concerns, there will be a free First Impact Program in Joplin for parents and their new teen drivers!

The first impact program is designed to help prepare new drivers for the road ahead by teaching parents and their teens about Missouri's graduated driver license law, and provide them with the tools they need to monitor, coach, and support their new teen driver.

Speakers at the event will include Nixa Police Department's Brent Forgey, and First Impact's Carol Hoormann.

The event will be hosted at the Joplin Public Library on Saturday, February 28th, 2026 from 1:30 - 3:00 PM.

According to their site, teens aged 15-19 have the highest crash risk of any age group on the road. Teens are three times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash and the risk is highest during the first 30-90 days of independent driving.
