OKLAHOMA CITY – On Thursday, February 12, Kendrick Antonio Simpson was executed by lethal injection by the state of Oklahoma.
Time of death was 10:13 a.m.
Simpson was convicted of the 2006 murders of Glen Palmer and Anthony Jones.
Earlier in the morning, death row opponents conducted two vigils prior to the execution.
Dr. Elizabeth Overman, Oklahoma Coalition Against the Death Penalty chair, said: "People are really upset about this execution. The state needs a permanent injunction against the death penalty."
Simpson's attorneys had asked the Pardon and Parole Board to consider clemency because they said he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Simpson survived a difficult childhood, Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and being shot himself, his lawyers said.
The Oklahoma Pardon and Review Board ultimately denied clemency to Simpson on a 3-2 vote.
