JOPLIN, Mo. — In a heartfelt display of community support, Superior Roofing & Construction, a local Joplin-based company, recently provided a completely free roof replacement to a single mother and her daughters, highlighting the profound impact of targeted giving in the Four States area.

“We feel like our success within Superior Roofing and Construction has always been behind our community,” Superior Roofing and Construction owner Kohl Slaughter said. “(We’re) community based. And what better way than to take care of a local family in our community, someone that's in need to take care of them and put on a new roof and get them back in good condition. So that's what we decided to do for the holiday season.”

The recipient, Alicia Smith, a Carl Junction resident and single mother, was chosen after a careful vetting process that saw more than 750 testimonials submitted by community members sharing stories of genuine hardship and unmet needs for critical home repairs. Company representatives described the decision as challenging due to the volume of compelling applications, but emphasized that the focus remained on families facing significant hardship and those whose lives would be most positively affected by the Christmas gift.

“All of her daughters reached out to us and gave us their testimony,” Slaughter added. “We've actually got some pictures from the past of them repairing the roof over and over again. Her daughter's up on the roof. They're a wonderful family, wonderful community members. And so what better way than to get them taken care of and make sure their roof is covered and taken care of for the foreseeable future?”

The project, valued at a ballpark figure of $15,000, was fully funded out-of-pocket by Superior Roofing, with no corners cut on quality. The materials and craftsmanship matched the high standards used in their paid installations, reinforcing the company's commitment to excellence even in philanthropic efforts.

The initiative has strengthened Superior Roofing's local brand, earning gratitude and goodwill while distinguishing the company as genuinely invested in the area rather than just another contractor.

Looking ahead, Superior Roofing plans to scale the program in future years, aiming to provide more free roofs as resources allow. Leadership views the effort as a long-term strategy to deepen community ties, build lasting customer loyalty, and balance business growth with social responsibility.

Superior Roofing encourages residents to continue sharing stories and testimonials to help identify families in need for upcoming giveaways. This single act of kindness has already sparked hope and underscored the power of local businesses stepping up to address real community needs.
