Firefighters battle flames, heavy black smoke on west side of Joplin
Local fire departments responded to a blaze on the west side of Black Cat Road a little before noon today.

Local fire departments responded to a blaze at U.S. Assets and Recovery on the west side of Black Cat Road, halfway between Bell Center and 7th street today.
All employees were evacuated safely and no injuries of any employees were reported.
Seven firefighters were reportedly transported to area hospitals for treatment of exposure to a caustic substance.

Joplin and Carl Junction Fire units responded along with Jasper and Newton County Sheriff's office
The fire produced heavy black smoke and flames.
The fire resulted in 7th street being blocked at Schifferdecker with traffic being directed by the Joplin Police Department.
