Tragedy on the roadway in Newton County Friday following a fatal single-vehicle accident.
Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that just before 10:45 in the morning morning, a 2018 Ford EcoSport was traveling eastbound on US-60, about one mile west of Granby, when the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
The driver, a 48-year-old Granby man, sustained minor injuries. However, authorities confirm a 57-year-old female passenger was killed on impact. Responders say she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
This marks the fifth fatality for Troop D this year. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
