(Missourinet) - ST. LOUIS / KANSAS CITY, MO — While the recent winter storm caused travel headaches across the state, Missouri’s ski resorts are preparing for a massive silver lining. Management at both Hidden Valley and Snow Creek resorts report they are expecting a significant spike in business as fresh powder and freezing temperatures create ideal conditions for winter sports.

Ready for the Rush

Jesse Kimes, manager of Hidden Valley Ski Resort near St. Louis, says the resort is fully equipped for those who may be inspired by the recent snowfall to try the sport for the first time.

"Come on down," Kimes said. "We've got lessons, we've got rentals, we've got everything you need to get going."

Kimes emphasizes that with the current conditions, there has never been a better time for beginners to learn.

Influx of New Skiers

On the western side of the state, Joayanna Cook-Grey, manager of Snow Creek Resort near Kansas City, is seeing a similar trend. She notes that the resort is seeing a surge in interest from individuals who have never skied before, drawn out by the heavy accumulation seen over the weekend.

In anticipation of larger-than-normal crowds, staff at both locations are working around the clock to:

  • Finalize lift ticket inventory.

  • Prepare rental equipment and safety gear.

  • Stock up on concessions, including brewing plenty of hot chocolate for guests.

As Missourians look for ways to enjoy the wintry landscape, the state's slopes are ready to turn the recent storm into a seasonal success.
