(Missourinet) - Efforts are being renewed in the legislature to ban foreign ownership of agricultural land in Missouri.

State Representative Mazzie Christensen of northwest Missouri’s Harrison County is sponsoring one of the proposals:

“You know, I think one of the biggest reasons why it hasn't happened yet is, you know, the lobby corps that has a special interest, especially with China, don't want it to. I think that's the biggest issue.”

Under Christensen’s bill foreign entities, including allied nations, would have to divest its properties in Missouri by August 28th, 2031.

In similar bills filed in recent years, the Missouri Realtors Association argued that the government should not interfere with the people’s right to sell their property.
