City of Joplin to pick up cost for audit of the city

The State Auditor of Missouri gave Joplin a grade of “Fair” in a recent audit of the city.
Joplin residents gathered enough petition signatures in 2023 to trigger an investigation by Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick.
Now it’s time to pay the bill.
Joplin City Manager Nick Edwards says the cost of the Audit will be paid for by the City of Joplin.
“We do not yet have the final bill but he State Auditor told us to go ahead expect around $250,000,” Joplin City Manager Nick Edwards told NewsTalk KZRG.
“That’s a cost that’s borne to the city,” Edwards added. “So it’s ours to pay. When we get that bill, we have set aside the funds to pay that.”
Edwards said the City will use some of its reserve funding to pay for the audit.
