Schmitt laments ongoing ‘meat grinder’ in Ukraine while saying U.S. can no longer be the world’s policeman

Missouri U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt says he’s hopeful that President Trump can broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine:

“But it is important, I think, that both parties are serious. Both the Russians and the Ukrainians are serious about getting a lasting peace here, this, this can't go on forever. And it's effectively -- now it’s a meat grinder. It's terrible. You've got 1000s of people dying every single week.”

But Trump also recently stated that America’s days as the world’s policeman are over. 

Schmitt, a member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, says he agrees with that position. 

Russia invaded Ukraine three years and three months ago.
