Motorcycle blows tire and crashes; one killed, one seriously injured

A mechanical failure lead to a fatal motorcycle accident in Barton County just before 6 p.m. on Friday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident happed on I-49 about 8 miles north of Lamar when a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle had a blow out on its back tire.

That caused the southbound cycle to leave the highway and overturn, ejecting its two occupants

A passenger on the cycle, a 40-year-old woman from Nevada, was airlifted to a Joplin hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the cycle, a 44-year-old man from Nevada, was taken to a Joplin hospital by ambulance where he was listed in serious condition.

This was Highway Patrol Troop D's 33rd fatality for 2025.
