Suspect in officer-involved shooting dies over the weekend

The man that Jasper County deputies say threatened them with a knife last weekend, has passed away from a gunshot wound.

It all began with a domestic incident call in Jasper, Missouri, on Sunday, April 13th.

The suspect, 43-year-old Gavon Newton, of Joplin, was allegedly armed with a knife when broke into his ex-girlfriend's house and started breaking things and threatening her.

When officers got to the scene, Newton allegedly threatened them and charged at them with a knife.

Newton was tased twice but to no avail. That's when one deputy shot him multiple times.

Aid was rendered to Newton on scene before he was taken to a local hospital, where he died about six days later.

The case is still being investigated by the highway patrol.
