Celebration time at tonight's Joplin City Council Meeting

On the Monday KZRG Morning Newswatch, Joplin mayor Keenan Cortez highlighted the celebration of Joplin's 152nd birthday and the 20th anniversary of the city's Hall at a city council meeting happening tonight, where festivities include cake and a review of local history. 

The mayor discussed Joplin's ongoing growth and infrastructure improvements, aided by recognition from the governor. 

He also emphasized the city's commitment to historic preservation through its dedicated committee. 

Additionally, Dr. Dean Van Galen from Missouri Southern State University shared updates with the mayor on the construction of a new health sciences building, further positioning Joplin as a "medical mecca" with expanding job opportunities in the healthcare sector.

The council meeting begins at 6:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers, 5th floor of City Hall. The public is invited.
