Cleaver co-sponsors bill to ban stock trading among Congressional members

Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver is co-sponsoring a bill that would ban stock trading among Congressional members.

The bipartisan legislation would effectively ban members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from trading individual stocks.

The so-called TRUST in Congress Act would require lawmakers and their immediate family to either divest from individual stock holdings or move their investments into a qualified blind trust during their entire tenure in Congress, ensuring they cannot profit off the nonpublic information provided to lawmakers.

At the time of this report, no other U.S. House members from Missouri are listed as co-sponsoring the bill. Republican Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley is sponsoring similar legislation.
