Accident on Barry County Farm Road injures bicyclists from the Netherlands

An accident on Farm Road 2285 one mile southeast of Seligman in Barry County  Tuesday afternoon injured two bicycle riders from the Netherlands. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when 31-year-old Ivar Niels and 43-year-old Thijs Sonneveld of the Netherlands were traveling westbound on the wrong side of the road. One of the bikes was hit by an eastbound Chevy Truck driven by 35-Grant W. Garwood of Joplin. A piece of the bike then struck the second bicycle rider. Niels was seriously injured. He was taken to a Fayetteville, Arkansas hospital. The other bike rider had minor injuries. Garwood was uninjured.
