Prison sentence given to Pittsburg woman for abusing a child

A woman from Pittsburg has been given a six year, eight month prison sentence for child abuse.

41-year-old Megan VonHemel, plead guilty to Aggravated Battery, Abuse of a Child and Interfering with law enforcement in Cherokee County District Court.

The charges were filed by the Cherokee County Attorney's Office in 2022, following an investigation into VonHemel's criminal conduct with a minor child.

VonHemel will soon be transferred to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
