Oklahoma executes Hancock for 2001 double murder

Oklahoma Death Row inmate Phillip Dean Hancock was executed Thursday morning in McAlester for a 2001 double murder after Gov. Kevin Stitt did not grant clemency.

The 59-year-old Hancock admitted to fatally shooting two men in Oklahoma City in 2001 but always maintained he killed the men in self-defense.

On Nov. 8, the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole had recommended clemency for Hancock.

If the Governor had granted clemency, the death sentence would have been changed to life terms without the possibility of parole.
