Pittsburg woman arrested after police chase with child in the car

A woman from Pittsburg was taken into custody over the weekend for leading police on a short high speed chase with a child in the car. Read more from the Galena, Kansas, Police Department below:

On Saturday, January 14, just before 9PM, a Galena Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a Ford pickup for multiple lane violations.

During the interaction with the driver, 45-year-old Shanda Clough of Pittsburg, Kansas, fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed.

After a brief pursuit, that reached speeds in excess of 85MPH in residential areas, Clough came to a stop just west of Wood Street on East 21st Street.

Clough refused to exit the vehicle and physically resisted officers when being taken into custody. Clough’s 6 year old child was found unrestrained in the back seat.

Clough was transported to the Cherokee County Jail for the following charges, DUI, Transporting an open container, Fleeing/Attempting to elude, interference with law enforcement, battery on a law enforcement officer, and aggravated child endangerment.

Bond was been set at $5,000 cash surety. The child was placed in police protective custody in a safe home.
