Elderly man from Missouri beaten to death in New Orleans

New Orleans police say a 29-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly entered a hotel room and fatally beat an elderly man from Missouri.

The 75-year-old man was found unresponsive in a room Thursday night at the Avenue Plaza Hotel.

He later died at a New Orleans hospital.

The man's wife, who was in the room, was not injured.

Martin Hurtado of New Orleans faces a charge of second-degree murder. Bond was set Friday at $350,000.

The victim's identity will be revealed once an autopsy is done and family members are notified.
