Car-train collision described as "non-injury" by Sheriff

A train and car collided this morning just north of Columbus.

It happened on Kansas Highway 7  near Bethlehem road.

Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves says the southbound train was traveling at a slow speed when it hit a passenger car. He describes it as a non-injury crash.

The car reportedly drove off the roadway and got stuck on the tracks but the driver managed to get out of the car before it was hit by the BNSF engine.

The accident happened around 6 a.m.

The roadway was reopened to all traffic just before before 8 a.m.
