NE Oklahoma traffic accident takes life of 94-year-old Pittsburg man

MIAMI, Okla. – A two-vehicle collision on Saturday has taken the life of a Pittsburg, Kansas resident.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on County Road 580 and East 640 Road, about a mile east of Miami.

The patrol says 94-year-old Fred Wettstein of Pittsburg failed to yield while making  a left turn and was struck by a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Joy Dawn Jones of Miami.

Wettstein died at 8:25 Saturday night at Freeman Hospital in Joplin.

Jones was treated and released from a local hospital.

Also treated and released passenger in Jones' vehicle, 55-year-old Laquitha Taylor of Okmulgee.
