Home near Carthage declared a total loss after Saturday night fire

If you live around Carthage or Carterville you may have heard a loud boom late Saturday night.

The mystery is solved. It was the sound of an oxygen tank exploding during a structure fire at 7999 County Lane 192 near Carthage that started around 10:30 p.m.

One person home at the time  of the fire was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The Carthage Fire Department, Mercy Ambulance, and Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies responded.

Additional Fire Departments from Carterville, Oronogo and Duenweg helped bring the blaze under control.

Local firefighters say the structure was a total loss.
