71-year-old woman dies in Lamar house fire

A woman from Lamar has died after a house fire early Saturday morning.


The Lamar Police Department says around 6 AM, they and the Lamar Fire Department responded to a residential fire near the intersection of 10th and Grand.


Upon arrival, they found the home with flames showing and heavy smoke.


71-year-old Betty Jo Parker was found deceased in the home. It appears that Betty Jo returned into the home to rescue a pet and was overcome by smoke.


67-year-old William Parker is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.


The fire has been ruled accidental.
