Freeman shows off advanced Da Vinci surgical robot

Freeman Hospital in Joplin showed off its Da Vinci surgical robot Monday.

It's the most advanced technology in the operating room for gynecological, urological and other surgeries.

"It has a very high level of resolution in the camera and the optics so the visualization is incredible compared to open surgery or even laparoscopic surgery," said Dr. David Baker, Chief Medical Officer at Freeman.

"It also offers and increased level of dexterity and a very low level of tissue damage," Dr. Baker added.

He said procedures done with the robot typically have only a few small incisions/

Dr. Baker said surgeries done with the Da Vinci surgical robot generally result in fewer days in the hospital and faster recovery times.
