Missouri Senator Punished for Wearing Overalls

A State Senator from southwestern Missouri’s Lawrence County has been stripped of most of his committee assignments for wearing overalls on the Senate floor.

Republican Mike Moon lost four committee assignments when he chose to wear overalls, along with a coat and tie, while the Missouri Senate was in session.

He had been warned beforehand by Senate President pro-tem Dave Schatz to go change clothes, but Moon refused.

The Senate’s Conservative Caucus used Twitter to blast the move and defend Moon.

Caucus member Bob Onder said in one Twitter post that voters in Moon’s Senate district have “been disenfranchised.”

Schatz says Moon can get his committee assignments back -- if he apologizes to the full Senate.
