Construction on the new 250,000 square-foot FedEx Ground facility is currently underway next to Kansas Crossing Casino. The distribution center is the latest example of the significant growth in Pittsburg, and is expected to employ a mix of full and part-time team members.

The City of Pittsburg and Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce worked with the developer, Kansas Crossing Casino, the Kansas Governor’s office, and the Kansas Department of Transportation for nine months to bring this project to fruition.

“The new FedEx Ground distribution center is a tremendous development for Pittsburg, the region and our state,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “I am so grateful for the collaboration between the Kansas Department of Commerce and the Kansas Department of Transportation in support of FedEx Ground’s fast-moving investment plans. Completion of the four-lane U.S. 69 highway expansion to Pittsburg was a critical part of this business investment and growth of our economic development capacity in Southeast Kansas and our state.”

“We want to thank FedEx Ground for their investment in our community, and we look forward to working with them and any business that wants to make Pittsburg their home,” said Pittsburg City Manager Daron Hall. “This is an example of the progress that is possible when we work together.”

Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce President Blake Benson remarked on the importance of the new distribution center to the local economy.

“One of Pittsburg’s strengths is the diversity of our economy,” says Benson. “We have an extremely diverse business base and the addition of a large distribution center is a strong complement to that base.”

The new distribution facility is slated to open in October of 2022.
