Missouri State Fair history

Six Missouri cities were in the running to be the home of the State Fair.

The 120th Missouri State Fair is underway in Sedalia, thanks to a legislator from Mexico.

Cyrus F. Clark authored House Bill 279 in 1899 that authorized the creation of the fair.  Centralia, Chillicothe, Marshall, Mexico, Moberly and Sedalia were all considered as hosts for the fair.

Sedalia received the most votes of the delegates charged with picking the site.

The Missouri State Fair continues through August 22.
