Mother and boyfriend charged in the overdose death of a 1-year-old child

(AP) - Authorities in suburban St. Louis have charged a mother and her boyfriend in the overdose death of a 1-year-old child. Officials say 28-year-old Ebony Woods, of north St. Louis County, and 40-year-old Shaun Survillion, of St. Louis, are charged with one count each of felony child endangerment. Police say Woods called paramedics on July 7 as the baby struggled to breathe. The baby, Emya Woods, was taken to a nearby hospital, then flown to St. Louis Children's Hospital, where she died the next day. Doctors said the baby tested positive for fentanyl, a powerful and often deadly synthetic opioid. Police say they found open drug capsules in Woods' living room and kitchen, and that Survillion said the capsules were his.
