COVID kills a few vaccinated high-risk Missouri patients

(AP) More than a dozen vaccinated southwest Missouri patients with other health conditions have died of COVID-19 amid a surge of cases. The increase has led the University of Missouri to reinstate a mask mandate and some St. Louis restaurants to permit only the immunized to eat indoors. Six of the deaths of vaccinated patients were at CoxHealth, while an additional eight were at Mercy Springfield. Hospital officials said all of the patients had other health conditions. COVID-19 vaccines greatly reduce the chance of severe illness and death and remain effective against the variants, including the delta variant. Like many other vaccines, they're less effective in people with weakened immune systems and frail elderly.
