Berrey disqualified as Quapaw Nation candidate

Quapaw, Okla. - Quapaw Nation Chairman John L. Berrey has been disqualified as a candidate for Vice-Chairman of the tribe.

The Tribe's Business Committee made the determination to disqualify him as a candidate.

The vote was unanimous with one abstention by Vice Chairwoman Callie Bowden.

Berrey is charged with criminal charges and civil complaints dealing with alleged conspiracy and embezzlement.

Some voters in the Quapaw Nation challenged Berrey’s candidacy on the basis of those charges.

Berrey led the Quapaw nation for over two decades.
