Hostage situation in Stone County leaves suspect dead

KIMBERLING CITY, MO - Authorities say a Missouri state trooper shot and killed a man who was suspected of holding his roommate hostage after an hours-long standoff at a condo in the southwest part of the state.

KYTV reports that Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader said that when the suspect fired shots shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, law enforcement used a stun grenade that produces a bright flash and loud noise.

The patrol says one trooper then shot the suspect in an exchange of gunfire.

The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

His name wasn't immediately released. .
