Police write extra tickets over holiday weekend

Drive unimpaired or pay the price.

Evidently some drivers did not get the memo.

Over the 4th of July holiday, the Joplin Police Department took part in the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

Joplin officers who participated in the enforcement between Thursday and Sunday reported the following statistics:"

Vehicle Stops: 36
Citations: 23
Warnings: 41
Warrant arrests: 6
Other arrests: 7
Drug arrests: 4
DWI arrests: 3

The goal of this campaign was to increase visibility of law enforcement on roadways and decrease impaired driving crashes.

The money for overtime was paid for by the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Traffic and Highway Safety Division.
