No Charges Filed Over Child Custody Dispute

They don't know who fired first, so charges have yet to be filed after gun fire was exchanged between two men during a child custody dispute over the weekend in Newton County.

On Sunday, 27-year-old Eddie Mahurin went over to 34-year-old Joshua Roller's house on Terrier Road in Stella to pick up his child, but the two got into an argument and Mahurin threatened Roller. Shots were fired between the two, landing them both in the hospital, but both are claiming self-defense because the other fired first.

The child's mother, who is also Roller's girlfriend, was inside the house at the time and did not witness the shooting.

Until police determine what exactly happened, Newton County Prosecutor Jacob Skouby says charges will not be filed against either man.
