Richard Brown

Richard Brown is a Democratic politician currently serving in the Missouri House of Representatives, representing District 27 since 2017. Born in Ft. Riley, Kansas, Brown graduated from Southeast High School and earned both a B.S. and M.A. in communications from the University of Central Missouri. He worked as an educator in Kansas City public schools for 23 years before entering politics.

Brown is running for Missouri Lieutenant Governor in the 2024 election. As a legislator, he has focused on public employee retirement, gun safety, and family support. He sponsored legislation to repeal restrictions on local gun safety measures and co-sponsored Blair’s Law to penalize unlawful firearm discharge. Brown also opposed bills allowing concealed carry on public transit and banning gender-affirming healthcare for transgender individuals. He currently serves as the Assistant Minority Floor Leader and Vice Chair of the House Ethics Committee.
