Biography
Derek Schmidt, born on January 23, 1968, is a Republican politician running for Kansas' 2nd Congressional District in the 2024 election. A native of Independence, Kansas, Schmidt has a distinguished educational background, including degrees from the University of Kansas, University of Leicester, and Georgetown University Law Center.
Schmidt's political career spans over two decades. He served in the Kansas Senate from 2001 to 2011, including a stint as Senate majority leader. He then served as Kansas Attorney General from 2011 to 2023. During his tenure, Schmidt challenged several Obama-era policies and opposed the Affordable Care Act.
He aligns himself with former President Donald Trump's policies and pledges to "make America great again". Schmidt's platform also includes opposing Biden's agenda and advocating for stricter immigration policies.
