$15k in counterfeit cash seized in Lamar

Thousand of counterfeit dollars were seized in Lamar, Missouri, on Black Friday.

Police executed a search warrant related to an ongoing counterfeit currency investigation near the 600 block of Truman Street.

The investigation revealed that counterfeit U.S. currency was being used to purchase a variety of items, including electronics and vehicles, some obtained from out-of-state sellers.

During the course of the investigation, alert officers from the Lamar Police Department and Barton County Sheriff’s Office located a stolen 2015 Dodge Charger reported out of Kansas. A traffic stop was conducted near 1st Lane, and the vehicle’s occupants were taken into custody without incident.

Immediately following the recovery of the stolen vehicle, officers executed the previously obtained search warrant. During the search, law enforcement seized more than $15,000 in counterfeit U.S. currency.

One adult male resident of Lamar was taken into custody and transported to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, where he is being held pending the issuance of formal charges.

A juvenile female from Lamar was taken into protective custody and released to Juvenile Authorities for potential charges through the Juvenile Court.

A second juvenile female was also referred to Juvenile Authorities for consideration of formal charges.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
