Missouri state senator Jill Carter on KC Chiefs stadium & utility companies need regulation on decommissioning coal plants

The Chiefs may move to Kansas.

After the state made an offer to keep the team, Missouri state senator Jill Carter on the KZRG Morning Newswatch says:

“And the thing that I would like to see at the end of the day is the loyalty of the chiefs, like Missouri citizens have toward, you know, the loyalty to, of the chiefs to citizens of Missouri like we’ve had for them. So we’ll see what this RFP looks like in regards to what’s going on with Kansas.  But again, do we want to spend taxpayer dollars, you know, you know, to build a stadium for a sports team when people are having a hard time putting food on the table and gas in their tanks, you know, that’s a heavy lift.”

State senator Jill Carter also believes utility companies should be regulated on decommissioning coal power plants:

“You know, we filed a piece of legislation last session and I’m going to file it again this year that makes it where electric companies cannot decommission a coal fired plant without some kind of oversight. Ratepayers have paid for the infrastructure of a lot of these coal fired plants. They will be paying for SMRs, they’re paying for all this infrastructure. And yet to have a company be able to come in and decommission them without some kind of say or oversight by the legislature or the PSE is unconscionable to me. But that’s what’s happened.”
