On the Joplin Council agenda – Saving Memorial Hall – Possible rate hikes for bonfire and burning permits

Saving Joplin Memorial Hall.

That’s the goal of a group according to Mayor Keenan Cortez:

“So this group, Friends of Memorial Hall, have put together a presentation that’s going to come before the city council tonight. And they’ve kind of explained their way through what it would take to raise the dollars to rehab Memorial Hall, preserve its history and make it viable again as a landmark here in our community for tourism, for concerts, for all kinds of activities to happen there in the coming years.”

At tonight’s Joplin City Council meeting, there will be an update from the Finance Committee.

The volunteer experts review the city’s $200 million budget semi-annually, enhancing fiscal management and transparency.

Also tonight, discussions will be held on proposed fee hikes for bonfire and outdoor burning permits to cover rising administrative costs and ensure service sustainability.

The meeting will take place at the council chambers in Joplin City Hall tonight at 6.
